Children's Garden - Cambodia Network A Children's Garden is a outdoor garden that is managed by children and where children can grow plants of any kind, e.g. vegetables, fruit trees, herbs, ornamental flowers, etc. Secondary activities could be a children's play ground and activity center. Children's Garden - Cambodia Network will be a network of children's gardens that may be located in schools, orphanages or even in a public park. There are many reasons for establishing Children's Garden, from an individual, local, national and global perspectives. Children like to see plants grow and it is an activity that often gives a 100 % success. A children's garden is an outdoor visual classroom. Children need to know where their food comes from and how long it takes to grow them in order to appreciate the food they eat and the trees around them. Children would like to be able to pick fruits from trees to eat and can develop their own ways how to take care of a tree so that they can share the harvest from a tree. From the local perspective, it means greening of a compound with flowers, plants and trees. With 50 % of the world's population living in urban cities, Children's Gardens will ensure that children have their patch of land with greens for themselves. In 2003, A Swedish NGO organized a gathering at the UN Office Nairobi grounds in Girgiri and several city Mayors and officials were invited to join about 200 children. There was a group of street children who played, laid down and rolled themselves on the green lawns and when they were asked why they were doing this, they answered that they have never seen and touched such beautiful grass in their lives before. The Children's Garden Cambodia Network will ensure that Cambodian children have their own patch of grass, flowers and trees. SEARDF PROJECTS: |
