Proposals/Grants

Looking at the grants provided by SEARDF, Inc., it might seam insignificant to many readers. However, it has made a world of difference to the poor families, handicapped and orphans who benefited from the rather meager grants SEARDF, Inc. was able to approve. Fortunately, the management at CREASARD  Eco-Farm continues to support the families living on the land after the SEARDF, Inc. grant money runs out.

Yet, so much more could be done with more public support.

For starters:

1. Greening the school compound.

2. Provide books and school supplies for the students and teachers. SEARDF, Inc. has received books from local "homeschoolers." Now we need funds to mail them there. Bicycles are a much sought commodity to make it easier for students and teachers to come to school.

3. Send volunteers to teach English to the children and villagers. They are so eager to learn.

4. Dig additional ponds and canals to make more water available to nearby villages. Presently, during the dry season, many villagers are forced to scavenge the nearby forest, including the Protected Forest adjacent to CRESARD Eco-Farm, for anything that will help them survive.

5. Improve the roads to facilitate transporting goods to nearby markets.

6. and so much more........

These programs aim to provide long-term solutions to hunger and poverty by helping to move the families toward greater self-reliance by providing them with tools, livestock and training in sustainable farming techniques. Mr. Kep Pheng Ly, governor of the Municipality of Ratanak Mundol is very supportive of CRESARD Eco-Farm's efforts, especially in stopping the overexploitation of the forests. He is participating in the tree planting campaign, as well as in rural community development. The Protected Forest was placed under CRESARD's stewardship by the provincial governor to give it more protection.

The project has the potential of becoming the model to be successfully duplicated in other economically depressed areas.

PLEASE BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION.

Subject: Letter of Inquiry - Grant Seekers: Training and Occupation for Disabled Association

This letter of inquiry contains a project idea that deals with the rehabilitation of landmine victims in Cambodia. It would involve the creation of the Eco-Village and Farm for a total of 300 families, over the time span of several years. Landmine victims and the poor would be retrained to again become productive members of their community and the village would serve as a model for other communities. This project is at the beginning stages and will only succeed, if funding can be secured.

The goals are to reduce the desperate poverty faced by disabled people in a country as poor as Cambodia. The long-term goals are: to reach "steady state operation" where the eco-system of the farm is working in a balanced, efficient and harmonious way, using available local materials and requiring minimal external input.

The management of TODA is keen to know if your organization’s present interests and funds permit consideration of a formal grant application. TODA would appreciate your review of this proposed project (see attached). If a positive review is made, TODA will submit the full proposal for further consideration so that the project can be lunched as soon as possible.

A grant from The South East Asian Rural Development Fund, Inc. would make all the difference to the landmine victims and handicapped poor served by TODA.

Sincerely,

Mr. Sen Soventha
Executive Director, TODA

Dear Mrs. Guagliano and SEARDF Board of Directors,

We have updated the Cresard Eco-Farm website: www.cresard.com/pr01.htm for you to see what we do here. We make very good progress with plants and animals the people living here on farm take care of. They do learn very much on how to watch animals and plant trees and vegetables.

With additional funds Cresard Eco-Farm will be able to do much more and train more poor and handicapped people to learn how to take care of themselves.

The governor of Battambang Province is watching how we are doing here on farm and wants other people to come and learn.

Sincerely,
